SUMMARY

Two sisters.
One brutal murder.
A quest for vengeance that will unleash Hell itself…
And an intoxicating romance.

Emilia and her twin sister Vittoria are streghe – witches who live secretly among humans, avoiding notice and persecution. One night, Vittoria misses dinner service at the family’s renowned Sicilian restaurant. Emilia soon finds the body of her beloved twin…desecrated beyond belief. Devastated, Emilia sets out to find her sister’s killer and to seek vengeance at any cost—even if it means using dark magic that’s been long forbidden.

Then Emilia meets Wrath, one of the Wicked—princes of Hell she has been warned against in tales since she was a child. Wrath claims to be on Emilia’s side, tasked by his master with solving the series of women’s murders on the island. But when it comes to the Wicked, nothing is as it seems…

Review

I wanted to buy the fairyloot special edition of this book in the May 2021 fairyloot sale but I couldn’t get it, either on its own in the October 2020 box that it was a part of, so I put it on my TBR. There was another sale in April this year that I could have gotten the book but again I missed it which was very disappointing for me. I started asking myself why I needed to have a special edition physical copy? My answer is that book buying and book reading are two very different hobbies, and I was falling dangerously into the book-buying hobby, when I have no shelf space for them. I decided to get the book on audio instead and it was fantastic. The performance and the effects were amazing, I was so creeped out at night listening to the audiobook, that’s how good it was.

Emilia and Vittoria are twin sisters who are similar but vastly different from one another in their interests. They are both born Witches and since they were little, their grandmother has thought them witchcraft and told them to stay away from dark magic. Witches are not known to the human population because they are misunderstood and witch hunters are not very forgiving. The twins’ family are in hiding from humans and the Wicked (seven princes of hell). The twins are very close to each other but everyone has secrets that they won’t share even with their closest person. Emilia has always found comfort in a good book and coming up with new recipes that she hopes to one day try in her family’s restaurant. This changes when she finds her twin dad after the death of 2 other witches. Emilia is now set on finding her sister’s killer, no matter what lengths she has to go to.

Despite her grandmother’s warnings not to mess with the Wicked, Emilia delves into dark magic to summon a demon she thinks she can control but she gets one of the princes of hell instead. In a few hours, Emilia meets 3 princes of hell who have different agendas and all offer her protection if she will align herself to their house. Emilia has set herself on a path that has more twists and turns than she can envision and they are cloaked in danger. How far will Emilia go to find her sister’s killer? How much of herself will she sacrifice?

I gave 5 out of 5 stars because I loved the extracts from the grimoire at the beginning of each chapter. The relationship between Wrath and Emilia is so funny at times and definitely enemies to lovers troupe which I loved. The writing and performance were superb. The language was easy to understand and I love the little Latin and Italian words mixed in the text. Emilia really changed through the story and I look forward to the next part of her journey.
