Review
Antonio was a friend she trusted and hoped more will develop before he joined the monastery, so Emilia is shocked to find out that he had a hand in the death of her sister but not the removal of her sister’s heart. There is a mastermind behind the murder of the witches and their missing hearts. Emilia sold her soul to Satan in hopes of stopping more murders of witches and finding out the murderer of her twin sister. When Wrath comes to collect her to meet her intended husband, she hoped for more reaction from him but the Wrath she encountered seems different from the one she knows. Everything is not as it seems, there are so many truths and half-truths to uncover especially about Emilia’s family and why they have hindered the progression of her power as well as her twin’s.
Emilia is now in hell and she learns that she is not to marry Satan because she is still betrothed to Wrath and she has an unbreakable bond with him that even death cannot sever. She is continuously drawn to consummate her marriage to Wrath and he isn’t opposed to fulfilling her wish. But Emilia is fighting the bond because she doesn’t want to lose her family forever. She has to navigate the bond with Wrath which means more than she knew, the other seven princes’ of hell’s courts, looking for clues to her sister’s murderer and her confusing feelings for her intended in a world that uses your desires against you. Will Emilia find out the murderer of her sister before she succumbs to her bond with Wrath? And what does the new curse and prophecy mean for Emilia’s future?
Just like in the first book, there are intrigues but in this book there are so many dark corners and no hints that the reader has, all we have is Emilia’s speculations which sometimes feel like they lead nowhere because she has very little information herself. She is moving blindly through a world she doesn’t understand and we as the readers are moving right along with her in the dark. The push and pull between Emilia and Wrath is so intoxicating to read and I think their interactions move this second book into the new adult category for me.
Another 5 out of 5 stars and when the third book is released in September I am anticipating another 5-star work. The plot flowed smoothly and throughout I was just eager for the next revelation. It’s unpredictable, dramatic, and masterful. Forget all you know of Satan’s tale, this will blow your mind, so enjoy the ride.
