Hello Readers, welcome back to my blog.
I’ve been sharing books that I’ve read, reviews on them and doing promotional posts on my blog for almost three years now but in all that time, I have not shared my favourite book with you.
Please note that I am not trying to convert anyone (that is for the Holy Spirit to do) and I mostly share from my experience and the experiences of those close to me.
The Bible and I have had a long standing relationship from my youth, playing with it, reading it, ignoring it and lamenting over my lack of knowledge of it in my later years but it is undoubtedly my favourite book. Please see below a photo of the translations I have so far. I plan to get more translations and study them.

For those who are unaware, the Bible is the main text of my religion –Christianity – it is our sacred guide book on how to live a godly life. The Bible is written by people who have encountered God, have been enlightened and inspired by Him, have been blessed and guided by His Holy Spirit. It is also an account of the life, death and resurrection of His Son- Jesus Christ. This is where the word Christian comes from – to be Christ like. The Bible is a collection of stories, poems, proverbs, songs, letters histories, prophesies and so on. It is a love letter from God to His people.
The Bible is divided into two sections, the Old Testament and New Testament. There are two dictionary definition of testament, the first means a person’s Will, especially the part relating to personal property. In law, we advise people to draw up a last Will and Testament which will deal with the division of their worldly possession when the individual is deceased. The second meaning of testament is something that serves as a sign or evidence of a specified fact, event or quality. The testaments of the Bible fits both meanings from the dictionary because it is both stating the Will of God for His people and attesting the disciples encounter with Jesus Christ as well as other people who have encountered God.
The Old and New testaments of the Bible are further divided into books; there are 39 books in the Old Testament and 27 books in the New Testament. These books are further divided into chapters and verses.
The Bible is the bestselling book of all time. It has so many different translations both of English and other native languages around the world. My favourite translation so far is the New Living translation but I want to study other English translations as well so this might change in the future.
There are several passages in the Bible that I like and that speak to me personally but since I got married and started my family, Proverbs chapter 31 has become a great inspiration for me. If you have some time and are curious, you should definitely check out this book and chapter of the Bible. Keep in mind that it is based on a woman in ancient times and is in a stereotypical female role so this has to be adapted to the modern woman for application.
The lady in proverbs chapter 31 sets a high standard and women today are already being held to impossible standards now. Working mums should work like they don’t have children and run their homes like they don’t have work while looking like they just stepped out of the salon. So the verse that resonates with me most is verse 30 of Proverbs chapter 31 “charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised”. The important thing is to do the best you can for your family and the people around you, being selfless and hardworking and above all put God first and the rest will follow. God created us all and loves us for who we are, He gave us our talents and asks that we utilise it and expand on it.
I pray every day for God to help me be more selfless in a world that advocates love for self more. I am still working on this and will continue to. The Lord will help me as He helps us all.
Thank you for reading
Have a great week and God bless
